Conclusion
This is an excellent fish finder and navigation equipment that I would suggest to any boater who travels. I used it for the first time on a 10-mile canoe trip recently, and I couldn’t be happier with how well it performed. I was able to plot my route on a paper map to obtain the coordinates for each leg, and then enter all of the waypoint coordinates into the unit the night before generating a route.
The gps unit kept track of where I was, how long it would take to get to the next waypoint, and how long it would take to reach to the final destination the following day on the sea. It also provided us with information about our speed, which is quite useful when planning a journey.
I have two boats that I use for fishing: one is a row boat with the transducer mounted on the electric motor propeller, and the other is a canoe with the transducer mounted in the hull using a foam attachment piece.
The fish finder performed admirably in both circumstances, and I appreciate being able to switch between the two. It’s worth noting that I use velcro to keep the device swappable between the boats, but it wouldn’t be difficult to permanently place it. The foundation is quite good, and you can turn it in any way you like.
We were rained on during our vacation, however the Garmin had no issues in the rain. It did a fantastic job at withstanding the test of time.
This is certainly overkill if you only need a fish finder for local lakes, aren’t going by boat, and don’t need to use waypoints. However, if you want an excellent GPS and fish finder in one, this is a fantastic item that I strongly suggest.
