When you first look at it, the black matte clean look with red and black chrome accents grabs your attention right away. The new Shakespeare graphite and fiberglass technology isn’t just for show. These rods are great with braided line and have enough backbone to put the biggest bass on the river bank or on the boat with you.

This spinning Rod is basically lite to med action. For bigger fish you will want a little heavier Rod Med to Heavy. Also, the handle section is slightly longer at 21.5″ and the thinner sections are 21″. The plastic tube the sections come in is 24″ long. Even comes with a case it’s cheap so I just attach the pieces together with a bit of velcro tape.

I have always heard the Ugly Stik was like holding a tree branch and had no sensitivity. Well I bought 2 of the GX2 model in 7’0 medium heavy and let me tell you I have a lot of rods including 3 Fenwick HMG models and I believe the Ugly Stik is as sensitive as they are.

Conclusion:

One of the very best in the Ugly Stik range. A foot longer than the normal rods I would use for spinning from the boat but the 1 piece eyes and a stroke of genuis! No more having the eyes fail under heavy load from big fish, this rod has handled double figure Pollack no bother. From the shore it’s capable of throwing most soft plastics and spinners a good distance.
